The Trinity Day

On Sunday, June 7 (2020) Christians of the Eastern rite celebrate the Holy Trinity holiday. The holiday is celebrated annually on the 50th day after Easter, so it is also called Pentecost. The Christians of the Western rite celebrate the Holy Trinity a week after Pentecost, so this year the holidays coincide.

The name Trinity comes from the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, which Christ promised them before His Ascension.

The apostles, the Mother of God, as well as other disciples of Christ and believers, gathered in one house in Jerusalem. It took place on the 50th day after Christ's resurrection, the great feast of Pentecost in memory of the Sinai law. The third person of the Holy Trinity was revealed to those gathered: the noise from heaven, the tongues of fire, the wind.

On this day believers decorate their houses with branches of birch, any kind of birch, ayr, mint, thyme, wormwood. That's why Trinity is also called the "green" holiday.

Monday, which follows the Trinity, is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and is called Spiritual Day.
