Deacon vestments

Diaconal vestments – the robes of a deacon, the Protodeacon, the subdeacons. Consists of three parts – the surplice, the orarion and charging. Sometimes, like any other vestments of the clergy, of different colors (white, yellow, red, blue, green, purple, and black), depending on the Holy day.

The ALB is a long robe, almost to the floor, with sleeves and hem. In the Orthodox tradition is framed with gold lace; the front from the neck down is a small incision in the back – embroidered cross. Can be worn as by priests (deacons) and clergy (subdeacons, the Sexton).

On our website https://oblachenie.com/en/deacons-vestments you will find a large selection of different color, material (silk, brocade, velvet) and the complexity of manufacture of a surplice for any taste: in the section “Deacon vestments”

Mandatory membership a diaconal vestments is the orarion.

Orarion – long embroidered tape worn over the left shoulder, with the ends hanging almost to the floor: so it is worn by deacons. Subdeacons also wear the orarion so that on the back it was a letter X, such as its wear and deacons come to the Holy Communion.

The protodeacons wear a double orarion. As a simple orarion dual worn on the left shoulder, but it makes as if the circle, descending back from the left shoulder to the right side (near the hips) and going up front again at the left shoulder, going down the second (and first) end almost to the floor.

The orarion symbolizes the angelic Ministry, to remind the deacons that they must be pure as the Angels, before God and always do His will, and also indicates on the fertile talents of a priest. For the first time orarion, according to historians, began to use the synagogue of the Jews: in her special towel gave a sign of “Amen” while reading the Scriptures.

By serving, the deacon is clothed in the give – sleeves in the color of the vestments, symbolizing spiritual purity and strength.

It should be mentioned that in the priestly and Episcopal vestments, the role of the ALB performs podriznik, and the role of orarion – the epitrachelion.

Podriznik differs from the surplice by the absence of frames from the lace and lighter fabric from which it is made.

The stole is different from the orarion, the fact that both its ends are in front, evenly descending almost to the floor. Initially, with the stole served as a diaconal orarion, which in the ordination of a deacon to the priesthood shifted from the back to the chest as a sign of greater responsibility of the priest before God.

Stoles, as well as other elements of priestly vestments you can see in the “Priestly vestments”.

Undoubtedly, the deacon Ministry is a jewel of the Liturgy. And we, in turn, wish You to please the deacons of Your Church with beautiful vestments, presented in our online store.
